The USU facility painting project began this week. All damage to the existing facility is being repaired and all of the peach and salmon colors are being painted to modernize appearances and match the new building. The first section of this project includes sand blasting CMU block walls to match the walls in the Plaza del Sol outside of the Wells Fargo Bank and Subway. Sand blasting will continue over the weekend and should be done by mid-week. Power washing the walls and painting will follow shortly thereafter. The facility is expected to remain fully open for the 45-day duration of the project and as much advanced notice as possible will be provided regarding the areas impacted by painters. Additionally, clear signage will be posted in advance if traffic must be rerouted for safety reasons.
Acoustic panel installation in the USU Internal Conference Room continued this week. All the panels were installed and all but one was covered with finish fabric. The panels look fantastic and have significantly reduced echo in the room. The acoustics are still not perfect, but the panels have provided a noticeable improvement.
The punch list walk for the new Mercantile Exchange convenience store was delayed to next week in an effort to complete a few of the larger expected punch list items in advance. The new Mercantile is still expected to open the third week in July. Additional outdoor seating is being moved over to the Coffee House in the next few weeks. Additional outdoor furniture is also being priced for purchase to fill in sparse seating areas and more umbrellas are being purchased to provide additional shade as the budget permits. It is hoped that funding will be identified and furniture delivered prior to school starting in September.
