STUDENT UNION > RENOVATION > RENOVATION UPDATE
Karma. Reap what you sow. Yin-yang. A balance of good and evil. What goes around comes around…. The concepts are hard to believe except almost every major religion has a manifestation of the tenet. Couple that with “things happen for a reason” and the USU renovation site work is in need of some serious personal introspection….
The Contractor was able to get the damaged water main moved and repaired before it started raining again. The landscaping subcontractor was also able to install eight 25’ tall palm trees that circle the performance plaza – in the pouring down rain. Special thanks to them for their work. The job is not easy in perfect weather. The good news is that the palm trees are in. The bad news is that 1,500 pound fork lifts are hard on muddy ground and the recently graded site is a mess. Understanding that the next available palm tree delivery date was 20 days away it was in the best interest of the project to spoil the freshly graded site to install the trees. Like Sisyphus pushing a rock up a hill in Hades only to have it roll back down for all eternity, the irony is blinding.
Work inside the building is winding down. Cove base has been installed and millwork is concluding. The walls are painted, doors installed, and the lights are hung and working. It really is a beautiful building. Audio visual work saw a brief lapse in progress this week due to a completely expected down period due to a previously existing subcontractor contractual requirement to work on another site. Work will begin in earnest again next week.
Regardless of the rain, I believe things really do happen for a reason. What that is exactly is hard to tell at this point. Unlike Sisyphus’ rock, the palm trees are beautiful and we will not be doing this forever.
